Anah

Anah is a wife and a mother. She loves her home in rural Indonesia and that love is reflected in the time she puts into caring for it. The same goes for Anah's sustenance garden. Beautifully tended, Anah grows enough to sustain her family of five with plenty of extra to feed other family members when they come to visit. While the rains in her region helped with vegetable growth, Anah struggled with having an adequate water supply for her animals and for her family. She also longed for a toilet because her family's only option was to go in a distant rice field.

"When guests came it hurt my heart because I had no toilet to offer them and I had to send my children to the rice fields to go."

On not having a toilet Anah explained, "When guests came it hurt my heart because I had no toilet to offer them and I had to send my children to the rice fields to go. My daughter was recently sick and had to have a doctor because her diarrhea was so bad." For these reasons, Anah and her husband were pleased to hear about the small loans offered by their local bank, KPP. KPP is one of Water.org's partners in the region.

Anah and her daughter

Anah and her daughter, Anisa, laugh and hug on their porch while taking a break from the garden.

With a small loan Anah's family was able to construct a bathroom and water tap on their property. Now Anah has what she believes are life's most important resources. And, she is pleased to share them with her family and neighbors. She allows her neighbors to use her toilet and in doing so, Anah has inspired some of them to also take small loans to construct bathrooms of their own.
